Here is a little about Marc.

I’m a creative director, writer, innovator, and brand strategist.

I built my reputation over the course of 20 years, working on Fortune 500 brands at leading ad agencies. But I’ve also pushed past my comfort zone, spending the past 5 years becoming an expert in green brands and innovation brands. Not only has this kept me learning, but it’s given me skills that brands need in volatile times.

The brands I’ve helped range across categories, from cars to beverage alcohol, packaged goods to pharmaceuticals.

My strategic and leadership skills have helped two ad agencies rise from obscurity to market prominence. Within 9 months of taking the creative helm at DDB Toronto, I had helped the agency win Bud Lite, Panasonic, and Motts, doubling billings and winning two Cannes Lions. At Grey, the team I built was responsible for the agency’s two-year rise from 40th to 9th in creative standings.

My creative craft has been recognized by virtually every international industry award for advertising and design. I’ve won Cannes Lions, One Show pencils, Clios, CA and New York Art Directors Club recognition. I’ve also won the P&G Worldwide Turnaround Award for my team’s work on the Mr. Clean brand.

In 2005, I launched my own company – a green brand agency. My belief was (and remains) that sustainability is going to be a key brand differentiator for 21st century brands.

My company was successfully sold in 2010 to Maddock Douglas – a leading innovation firm based in Chicago. At MD, I headed up the green innovation team, helping the company build a green innovation process, and establishing MD’s green thought leadership with prolific blogging and public speaking. I also created and engineered a green brand study – MapChange – that was referenced by journals like the New York Times.

Ms. DeFilippis is the founder of the Phoenix Green Chamber of Commerce.  She was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the organization in 2008.  The Phoenix Green Chamber is the reflection of her vision to promote the success of businesses committed to environmental and social responsibility.

Prior to founding the Green Chamber, she was a licensed certified public accountant (CPA).  Ms. DeFilippis spent several years with Merrill Lynch and a local boutique securities broker as a licensed financial advisor. During her career in the securities industry, she focused on identifying socially and environmentally responsible companies for clients of those firms who had a commitment to socially responsible investments. It is her belief that the current economic structure has tremendous capacity and opportunity for growth and success with a more responsible and long-sighted approach. As her involvement in the community increased, she identified a need for a structure that provided local information, resources and connectivity. The concept for the Green Chamber developed for over 1 ½ years prior to launch. Ms. DeFilippis also has a strong background in human resources as a previous HR Director, where she was responsible for 130 employees of a parent company and seven subsidiaries.

This week – get your Rudolph on with Cyndi Laurin!

Founder of Guide to Greatness, LLC and author, international speaker, and consultant – Cyndi Laurin is passionate about provoking an awareness of thinking in individuals and organizations. Cyndi believes a collective awareness of our thought and language is the proverbial silver bullet to organizational greatness. Her insights and expertise in process improvement and performance excellence are transforming both domestic and international organizations.

Beginning her career as a university lecturer at the age of 23 was certainly not the norm. Nor was earning her PhD in Educational Leadership and Organizations at the age of 26 or writing her first business book at the age of 32. Cyndi Laurin lives by the tenets she presents to thousands of people every year, and she firmly believes that greatness (or having an extraordinary life) is generated from within. Cyndi believes it is possible for anyone to live an extraordinary life, and from her commitment to the success of people and organizations, she intends on spending the rest of her life encouraging and facilitating others’ journeys in paving their own roads to greatness.

Over her years in teaching and working with several large, global and small, family-owned organizations, Cyndi began to recognize patterns in how individuals and organizations hinder themselves from being truly extraordinary. She realized that it was not lack of knowledge, lack of theories, tools, initiatives, strategies, or consultants that resulted in so many ordinary organizations…but simply, too much focus on tactical efforts without consideration for more powerful driving intangibles, such as awareness, values, and thinking.

Believing that thinking about thinking results in results; Cyndi is currently working on more business books and travels regularly throughout the world in an effort to provoke thinking, both individually and collectively.

Sustainability Innovation: nPower taking action!

Energy. It’s on our minds as we read about increasing gas prices, rolling blackouts to conserve energy in states hit by extreme weather conditions, and continued discussion about U.S. energy policy.

When we talk about energy and sustainability, words like efficiency, conservation, alternative fuels/energy/power come to mind. Let’s add kinetic energy to the mix.

Kinetic energy technology – energy derived from motion – is being developed in a variety of forms to harvest energy from waves, wind and people. That’s right, people. nPower http://www.npowerpeg.com/ comes to us from Aaron Lemieux of Tremont Electric in Cleveland, OH.

The nPower PEG (Personal Energy Generator) creates energy using the motion of walking, riding a bike, or running, and stores it in a small device that charges batteries for your hand-held personal electronics. It’s emergency battery back-up on the go! The nPower PEG is produced in the U.S., and 90% of the product’s components are sourced locally, from the state of Ohio. Sustainable energy and sourced locally – a great combination.

When we talk about responsibility and sustainability, we often hear people say, “But what can I do?” – this is one way you can make a difference! By creating your own energy source for your hand-held electronics when you walk, run, or ride a bike, you are making a direct, personal effort to create change. The nPower PEG technology has an additional, if not inadvertent, benefit – your health. The more you move, the more energy you store for your electronics – and the more calories you burn! Now that’s putting sustainability innovation and personal responsibility into action.

Miguel the brains behind the worms at Vermisoks joins us live at 3pm EST

Using technology to harvest the power of nature, the VermiSoks system is a virtuous cycle of green — converting consumable food by-products into lush organic growth. The system is beautiful in its simplicity and provides exponential benefit to all parties involved.

Fruit, vegetable and food scraps are collected from restaurants, hotels and homes The food waste is processed to produce gallons of Worm Wine™ Worm Wine™ is applied to VermiSoks – photodegradable mesh tubes – where we harness the power of earthworms to create nutrients to grow organic fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers When ready, the crop is harvested and made into tasty dishes
Whatever is left over re-enters the cycle to close the gap on hunger and generate health and wealth for our planet and for us
